The Timeline of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ
Almost the entirety of mainstream Christianity believes Jesus was crucified on a Friday and rose from the dead on the following Sunday morning at sunrise. A careful reading of the first four books of the New Testament proves this is not true. Jesus was a Jew and lived in the land of the Jews, participated in all the Holy Days which he in fact created. Jesus was the Lord of the Old Testament as the first chapter of John clearly documents.
He made some of the days of the festivals and feasts Holy convocations and permitted no work on those particular days as documented in Leviticus 23:3-7, “Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings. These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD’S passover. And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.”
The Jews called these annual Sabbaths high days and do so to this day.
Jesus gave but one sign proving he was the messiah and that was that he would be in the heart of the earth (DEAD) the same length of time Jonah was in the whale. Three days and three nights.
(Matthew 12:39-40)
But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Friday night to Sunday morning falls far short of the only sign Jesus gave. The following is the chronology of that event:
Jesus Christ ate an evening Passover meal with His disciples and instituted the New Covenant symbols (Matthew 26:26-28). Jesus was then betrayed by Judas, arrested and during the night brought before the high priest.
Matthew 26:17-28 (KJV)
Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread * the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Jesus died around 3 p.m. (Matthew 27:46-50).
Matthew 27:46-50 (KJV)
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, this man calleth for Elias. And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
The ninth hour is 3:00 PM they had to get him buried before the Sabbath began.
This was the preparation day for the annual, not weekly, Sabbath, which began at sunset (Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54; John: 19:31).
Mark 15:42 (KJV)
And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,
Luke 23:54 (KJV)
And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
John 19:31 (KJV)
The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
Jesus’ body was placed in the tomb just before sunset (Matthew27:57-60).
Matthew 27:57-60 (KJV)
When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
This was the high-day Sabbath, the first day of Unleavened Bread, the preparation as described by John and bodies should not remain—overnight, it was against the Mosaic law as noted in Deuteronomy.
(Deuteronomy 21:22-23) And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree: (Crucify him) His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day;
John 19:31 (KJV)
The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
Leviticus 23:4-7 (KJV)
These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD’S Passover.
And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
It is described as the day after the “Day of Preparation” (Matthew 27:62).
Matthew 27:62 (KJV)
Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
The high-day Sabbath now past, the women bought and prepared spices for anointing Jesus’ body before resting on the weekly Sabbath day, which began at Friday sunset (Mark 16:1).
Mark 16:1 (KJV)
And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, andSalome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
The women rested on the weekly Sabbath, according to the Fourth Commandment (Luke 23:56; Exodus 20:8-11).
Luke 23:56 (KJV)
And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
Exodus 20:8-11 (KJV)
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Jesus rose near sunset, exactly three days and three nights after burial, fulfilling the sign of Jonah and authenticating the sign He gave of His messiahship.
The women brought the spices early in the morning while it was still dark (Luke 24:1; John 20:1),
Luke 24:1 (KJV)
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
John 20:1 (KJV)
The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
Finding that Jesus had already risen (Matthew 28:1-6; Mark 16:2-6;Luke 24:2-3; John 20:1). He did not rise on Sunday morning, but near sunset the day before.
Matthew 28:1-6 (KJV)
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Mark 16:2-6 (KJV)
And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
Luke 24:2-3 (KJV)
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
John 20:1-2 (KJV)
The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
Using the present day calendar and going backwards to a time that fit the sequence of days described in the Bible we find the match to be Wednesday April 5, 30 AD as the day Jesus died. on the cross. And he was resurrected Saturday April 8, 30 AD exactly three day and three nights later.
